Jason Wiens is an instructor in the Department of English at the University of Calgary, where he teaches Canadian literature, contemporary literature, poetry, and literary theory, among other things. He has published scholarly articles on a number of Canadian writers and communities, including Dionne Brand, George Bowering, Margaret Avison, prairie poetry, Jeff Derksen, and Peter Culley. He has always been interested in literary communities, particularly in British Columbia. His doctoral dissertation was a critical history of the Kootenay School of Writing. Besides the University of Calgary, he has also taught at the University of Northern British Columbia and Mount Royal College (now Mount Royal University). He lives and works in Calgary.
